On 14th June those who attended our meeting were thrilled to hear Leita Chrystal tell us all about her schlumbergera and other plants that she grows.
Leita donated s.eren for a raffle prize.
After Leita's talk we had members who had brought plants for the Interest table tell us about them.
At the front left of the Interest table Phyllis told us about this Masoniana and behind it was an Aloe Superb hybrid.
This Pathopedlum orchid was another of Phyllis plants
As Phyllis explained this plant is a Conophytom not a Lithop.
.. and she explained this new Bromeliad is Blue Rain.
Then Alice told us about her double white Tree Dahlia.
Then the members choice competition results were advised with Alice's schlumbergera taking first place
Members were then advised that the next meeting is our mid-winter Christmas Dinner and will be at the earlier time of 12noon. They were also advised which food items to bring for the dinner but anyone not present who will be at the next meeting can just bring a food item of their choice.
Also they should bring plates and cutlery in a bag in which they can take them home to wash.
There will be a competition of a table centrepiece.
Andrew has agreed to come and talk about Bromeliads and Tillandsia.
Jim and I have just returned (7th June) from a trip north to Paihia
On our return trip we called in to see Carol at Pukekohe and was very impressed with her shade houses.
In the newest warm house she has plants that she is working with and trying to hybridize
Disocactus macranthus
These flowers have the most wonderful lemony perfume.
Our meeting on May 9th, Vicky Gibson told us about the trip that she and Robyn had in March to the Ellerslie Flower Show in Christchurch
After hearing about the wonderful exhibits I think there might be more members attending in future.
Then members were given a quiz that Virginia had made .. all from the last Epiflora.. It was interesting to hear how the members did in this quiz when the answer sheet was handed out.. some fun prizes were given.
Our usual members choice competition was held...
There was a great collection of schlumbergeras on the competition table but Penny's pink schlumbergera in a matching pink pot won the competition.

Our meeting on April 11th, Easter Saturday, was our Maintenance Workshop ... But we also had an Easter Surprise...
Lorraine (Virginia's sister) came and gave a chocolate making demonstration..
she showed us how to make a chocolate rabbit..and how to make small chocolates with fillings;
and then gave us celophane bags to fill with chocolates she had made and brought along.
Our usual competition was held and judged by public vote. Alice's hoya jungle gardens was chosen first; with Virginia's vireya and Robyn's schlumbergera 2nd equal.
